What changed on the Mint Mobile family plan
Mint’s family page now says: “Your first line of Unlimited is $30/mo, then $20/mo for each Unlimited line after that (5 lines max).” Mint lists the monthly savings as $10 for 2 lines, $20 for 3, $30 for 4 and $40 for 5.
Android Authority first reported the change. Android Police, PhoneArena and Android Headlines also covered it. Android Headlines reports that Mint’s earlier family setup gave no extra multi-line discount. Families got Mint’s 12-month rate while paying every three months.
Mint Mobile family plan cost and terms
Mint’s fine print sets these rules for the discount:
- Upfront payment. You pay for three months at a time. Two Unlimited lines start at $150.
- Auto Renew is required on every line in the family.
- The discount can end. Mint says it ends if any line is cancelled or moved to a non-eligible plan.
- No stacking. It may not be combined with other offers. Taxes and fees are extra.
- Data limits. Unlimited users over 50GB a month may see slower speeds when the network is busy. Hotspot is up to 20GB. Video streams in SD.
Lines can still mix and match plans. The $20 price applies only to added Unlimited lines. Mint’s Broadband Facts labels also show a regular Unlimited rate higher than the intro rate. Check the label at checkout before you pay.
What to do now
- Already on Mint with family lines? Sign in to the Mint app and check your next renewal price. Mint has not said whether current families get the new rate automatically.
- Thinking of joining? Compare the three-month total with your current bill. Five Unlimited lines cost $330 every three months.
- Moving numbers in? Get the account number and transfer PIN from your current carrier before you start. Don’t cancel the old line first.
- Leaving Mint later? See Mint Mobile Account Number & PIN for the steps.
- If a port is rejected, use Port Out Rejected to find the cause. To look up any carrier’s steps, use the port-out tool.
