Liberty Mobile Account Number & PIN: Accurate 2026

Liberty Mobile, the Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands carrier that took over AT&T’s island network in 2020, issues the account number and transfer PIN through customer care. It runs on its own network.

Here is how to get your Liberty Mobile account number and transfer PIN, and what to do with them when you move your number to another carrier.

Account Number

Your Liberty account number is on your bill and in the My Liberty app. Liberty does not publish a port-out guide on a page reachable from outside Puerto Rico, so confirm the number with customer care at 787-355-3535 before you give it to the new carrier. A Liberty Mobile line that came over from AT&T has a Liberty account number now, not the old AT&T one.

Transfer PIN

Ask Liberty customer care for a number transfer PIN at the same time. Liberty has not published the PIN’s length or how long it stays valid, so request it when you are ready to move and use it promptly. The PIN you use to log in to My Liberty is not the transfer PIN.

Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands follow the same federal porting rules as the mainland. Liberty Mobile cannot refuse to release a number because you owe a balance, and the new carrier starts the port, not Liberty. Keep the Liberty line active until the new SIM is working.

Liberty Mobile runs on its own network

Liberty Mobile is a facilities-based carrier. Liberty Latin America bought AT&T’s wireless operations in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands for $1.95 billion, closed the purchase on October 31, 2020, and retired the AT&T name on the islands by September 27, 2021. The customers it acquired were then migrated from AT&T’s systems onto Liberty Puerto Rico’s own mobile network, a transition Liberty’s parent describes in its 2026 securities filings. On September 3, 2024, Liberty also bought EchoStar’s spectrum in Puerto Rico and the USVI along with its prepaid mobile subscribers there.

Because the network is Liberty’s own, no mainland carrier is a “same towers” switch. A phone sold by Liberty Mobile is typically compatible with the mainland networks on the same bands, but check the IMEI against the destination carrier before you port.

Who runs Liberty Mobile

The mobile business operates as Liberty Mobile Puerto Rico Inc. and Liberty Mobile USVI Inc., subsidiaries of Liberty Communications PR Holding LP, which also owns Liberty Communications of Puerto Rico LLC, the cable and broadband company that trades as Liberty. All of it rolls up to Liberty Latin America. Liberty Mobile is not related to Liberty Wireless, the mainland T-Mobile reseller, which has its own page.

How to port your number away from Liberty Mobile

  1. Call Liberty customer care and ask for your account number and a number transfer PIN. Say that you are porting the number to another carrier.
  2. Keep the line active. Do not cancel Liberty Mobile first; a cancelled number can be released and the port will fail.
  3. Give the new carrier the account number, the transfer PIN, the zip code on the Liberty account, and the account holder’s name exactly as Liberty has it.
  4. Wait for the new SIM to activate. The Liberty line closes on its own once the number moves. Settle any final bill afterwards.
  5. Moving to a mainland carrier? A Puerto Rico 787 or 939 number and a USVI 340 number port like any other US number; the new carrier may ask for a mainland service address.

Why a Liberty Mobile port gets rejected

The common causes are an account number that was typed from an old AT&T bill, a transfer PIN that was never issued, or a name and zip code that do not match Liberty’s records. Call customer care, confirm all three, and resubmit. If Liberty says the number is locked, ask them to remove the port-out lock; federal rules do not allow a carrier to hold a number to collect a balance.

Where Liberty Mobile customers usually go next

Liberty Mobile runs its own network, so no mainland carrier shares its towers. Whatever you move to, check your IMEI against that carrier’s compatible device list first. In Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, T-Mobile and Claro are the other networks.

Liberty Mobile port-out questions

What network does Liberty Mobile use?

Its own. Liberty took over AT&T’s Puerto Rico and USVI network in 2020 and has since moved customers onto Liberty Puerto Rico’s own mobile network.

Is Liberty Mobile the same as Liberty Wireless?

No. Liberty Wireless is a mainland reseller on T-Mobile. Liberty Mobile is the Puerto Rico and USVI carrier owned by Liberty Latin America.

Can I port a Liberty Mobile number to a mainland carrier?

Yes. Puerto Rico and the USVI are US numbering areas under FCC rules, so a 787, 939 or 340 number ports like any other.

Where do I get the Liberty Mobile transfer PIN?

From Liberty customer care at 787-355-3535. Liberty does not publish a self-service path that is reachable from outside Puerto Rico.

Does BestCellular.com list Liberty Mobile as an active carrier?

Yes. Liberty Mobile sells service today and owns its network, so it counts toward the active total in our carrier dataset and is classified as a carrier that owns its own towers.
