The reset code still runs. There is just nothing left to connect to. ##72786# (##SCRTN#) clears a CDMA phone’s stored network settings and asks Sprint to send fresh ones. T-Mobile shut down Sprint’s CDMA network and then its LTE network on June 30, 2022, so the request goes nowhere. If your phone shows no service, a reset is not the fix — the line has to move to a network that still exists.
What happened to Sprint
- April 1, 2020 — T-Mobile completed its merger with Sprint.
- July 1, 2020 — DISH Network bought Sprint’s prepaid business, including Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile, for $1.4 billion.
- August 2020 — T-Mobile retired the Sprint brand and rebranded Sprint stores.
- 2022 — Sprint’s CDMA network was shut down, followed by Sprint’s LTE network on June 30, 2022.
Sprint postpaid accounts became T-Mobile accounts. Sprint SIM cards no longer authenticate on anything.
When the reset code is still worth running
The code is a device-side function, so it still executes. It is worth running in exactly two situations:
- You are troubleshooting a legacy CDMA device on a network that still provisions it — some regional carriers and refurbishers still do.
- You are clearing an old Sprint profile off a device before activating it somewhere else, so stale settings do not interfere.
It will not restore Sprint service, because Sprint service does not exist.

How to run the reset on Android
- Connect to Wi-Fi if it is available.
- Open the phone app and go to the dial pad.
- Dial
##72786#. - Confirm the reset when prompted.
- Let the device restart and run through activation.
How to run the reset on iPhone
- Connect to Wi-Fi if it is available.
- Open the native phone dialer and dial
##25327#, then tap Call. - Press OK when the Reset Subscriber Settings message appears.
- Wait for “Searching” to appear in the top left corner.
- If that does not work, go to Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset Network Settings.
The phone is fine. The network is gone.
Where a Sprint phone actually goes now
Sprint’s spectrum and its customers went to T-Mobile. Whether your specific handset works depends on its bands and whether it is unlocked, so check the IMEI with the carrier before you pay anything.

Will ##72786# bring my Sprint phone back online?
No. The code still runs on the device, but it asks Sprint’s network for new settings and that network was shut down in 2022. Nothing answers.
Can I still use a Sprint phone at all?
Often yes, on a different carrier. It depends on the device’s supported bands and whether it is unlocked. Give the IMEI to the carrier you want to join and ask them to confirm compatibility before you buy a plan or a SIM.
What is an MSL code and can you give me mine?
