Check coverage before you port
We have not confirmed which national network MagicJack uses, and we do not guess. Ask them before you port, then check that network’s map: Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T.
Your right to keep the number is federal, not a carrier policy. The rule is the FCC’s: Portability: Keeping Your Phone Number When Changing Service Providers.

Questions about MagicJack
Can I keep my phone number when I leave MagicJack?
Yes. Federal number portability rules let you take a working number to a new carrier. MagicJack cannot refuse the transfer or charge you to release the number.
Should I cancel MagicJack before I port my number out?
No. Cancel first and the number is released, which ends your right to move it. Keep the MagicJack line active until the new carrier confirms the port completed.
How long does a port out from MagicJack take?
Wireline and VoIP transfers run longer than wireless. Plan on a few business days once MagicJack has validated the account number and PIN.
Does MagicJack run on its own towers?
Not confirmed. MagicJack has not published which host network carries its traffic.
Does MagicJack charge a fee to release my number?
No. A carrier cannot bill you for porting a number out. You may still owe a final bill or an unpaid device balance, and that is separate from the transfer itself.
What happens if the MagicJack account number is wrong?
The port request is rejected and the new carrier resubmits it. The number stays on MagicJack in the meantime, so nothing is lost — it only costs time.
