Number Transfer PIN
Verizon gives you four ways to generate it: in My Verizon on the web or in the app (select Generate PIN), by dialling #PORT from the phone, or by calling 800-922-0204 or visiting a store. It is not your account password and not your voicemail PIN.
Account Number
Your Verizon account number, shown in My Verizon and on the bill. The new carrier needs the account number and the Number Transfer PIN together. One without the other fails.
Turn off Number Lock first, or nothing will work
Verizon protects lines against unauthorised transfers with a feature called Number Lock. In Verizon’s own words: “If your line has Number Lock on, to protect against unauthorized moves, you’ll see a notice in My Verizon. You must turn off Number Lock before moving a number.”
This is the single most common reason a Verizon port stalls with no useful error message at the other carrier. Check it before you do anything else.
How to port your number out of Verizon
- Turn off Number Lock in My Verizon.
- Generate the Number Transfer PIN — My Verizon web, the app, #PORT, or 800-922-0204.
- Collect the account number and your billing ZIP code exactly as they appear on the account.
- Start the transfer from the new carrier. Give them the number, account number, PIN and ZIP.
- Do not disconnect the Verizon line. Verizon warns: “Don’t disconnect your Verizon line of service until after your number is moved. Otherwise you must reactivate your Verizon number before your new carrier can move it.”

Will your phone come unlocked?
Verizon postpaid devices unlock automatically once bought outright or once the device financing balance reaches zero. One exception: if the phone was bought with a Verizon gift card, unlocking is delayed by 35 days.
Verizon prepaid is different — those stay locked for 365 days of paid, active service. That changed in January 2026 when the FCC granted Verizon a waiver of its 60-day unlocking rule. The full unlock rules by carrier are here.
Check coverage before you port
Verizon Postpaid runs on the Verizon network, so the coverage you get at your address is Verizon coverage. Check it on Verizon’s own coverage map before you start the transfer.
