Here is how to get your FreedomPop account number and transfer PIN, and what to do with them when you move your number to another carrier.

The free plan is dead

FreedomPop ended its free phone plan on February 7, 2026. In its own words: “On February 7, 2026, service for all Legacy free plan customers will be shut down.” Notice went out starting January 8, 2026. Customers who did nothing had their accounts cancelled.

FreedomPop still exists

The company is still operating, now under Red Pocket Mobile, with paid plans starting at $10 a month including unlimited talk and text. It is no longer the free-service company it was known as.

A free line that went dark in February 2026 and was never ported is gone, because numbers are released after disconnection. FreedomPop’s own notice gave two options: upgrade to a paid plan, or port the number to another carrier. Take neither and “the account will be cancelled.” Once a number is released it gets reassigned and cannot be recovered.

Getting your number out of FreedomPop

FreedomPop does not publish a self-serve port-out PIN page the way the big three do, so this is a support-ticket job rather than a two-click job.

  1. Open a support request with FreedomPop and ask specifically for your account number and port-out PIN or transfer PIN. Those two fields are what the new carrier will ask for — not your login password.
  2. Confirm the billing ZIP code on the account matches what you will give the new carrier. A ZIP mismatch is the most common silent port rejection.
  3. Start the port from the new carrier. Never cancel FreedomPop first.
  4. Keep the line paid and active until the transfer completes.

If the port is rejected, the cause is almost always one of five things and all of them are fixable.

What FreedomPop was, and why it mattered

  1. It pioneered genuinely free mobile service in the US — a small monthly allowance of talk, text and data at no cost, with paid top-ups.
  2. It was acquired by Red Pocket Mobile, which revived the FreedomPop and Unreal Mobile brands alongside its own.
  3. The free tier was retired in early 2026 as unsustainable. The brand continues as a conventional low-cost prepaid provider.

Check coverage before you port

FreedomPop sells service on more than one national network. Confirm which one your line is on before you port, then check that network’s map: Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T.

Questions about FreedomPop

Can I keep my phone number when I leave FreedomPop?

Yes. Federal number portability rules let you take a working number to a new carrier. FreedomPop cannot refuse the transfer or charge you to release the number.

Should I cancel FreedomPop before I port my number out?

No. Cancel first and the number is released, which ends your right to move it. Keep the FreedomPop line active until the new carrier confirms the port completed.

How long does a port out from FreedomPop take?

A simple wireless transfer usually completes within one business day once the new carrier submits the correct FreedomPop account number and transfer PIN.
