Itel UTel was a US mobile brand for personal customers that ran on Sprint’s CDMA and LTE network. Wikipedia lists it among defunct US virtual operators but gives no end date. Sprint’s network no longer exists. BestCellular.com found no official shutdown notice and no successor carrier.
Itel UTel appears to be shut down
Wikipedia’s list of US virtual network operators places Itel UTel in its defunct, merged and acquired table. The row names Sprint as the host and CDMA and LTE as the technology. It leaves the end date blank and cites no reference. Sprint’s network was folded into T-Mobile and no longer runs. BestCellular.com found no official end date and no dated mention of the brand.
If you had an Itel UTel line
No source names a carrier that took Itel UTel customers. Sprint’s network has shut down, so an Itel UTel line and its Sprint-era phone will not work today. If your number still works, it now sits with the carrier you moved it to. Ask that carrier for your account number and port-out PIN before you switch again.
Every fact on this page comes from one uncited Wikipedia row. BestCellular.com could not find an official shutdown notice and will update the page if one is published.
How Itel UTel ended
- October 14, 2026: BestCellular.com checks Wikipedia’s list of US virtual operators. Itel UTel sits in the defunct table on Sprint with no end date.
Why Itel UTel appears to have ended
The sources do not say. Wikipedia marks the brand as defunct but gives no date, cause or reference. BestCellular.com found no press release, filing or news report about Itel UTel. Searches for the name return the unrelated itel phone maker and other companies called Utel. What is certain is that its host, Sprint, no longer runs a network, so the service cannot operate as listed.
How to find who holds an old number now
- Check an old bill or payment record. It names the company that billed you last.
- Run the number through a carrier lookup tool. It shows the carrier that holds the number today.
- Call that carrier and ask for the account number and transfer PIN.
- Start the port from the new carrier. Never cancel the old line first.
Your right to keep a number
Number portability is federal law, not a carrier policy. The rule is the FCC’s: Portability: Keeping Your Phone Number When Changing Service Providers.
How we verified Itel UTel
BestCellular.com tracks active carriers and defunct ones. We keep both, because people still search for brands that no longer exist. Every fact on this page comes from the sources listed below, and we leave a detail out when no source states it. Where sources disagree, this page says so. If you can document a correction, tell us and we will check it against the sources.
Tracked and active are different counts on this site. Itel UTel counts in our tracked total, not in our active total, so it does not appear in tools built for live carriers.
