TúYo Mobile was a prepaid phone service from IDT Corporation, built for the US Hispanic market. It began commercial service in November 2005 and had about 100,000 active subscribers by July 2007. IDT cut its spending on the brand in fiscal 2008. Wikipedia lists its end date as 2012.
TúYo Mobile is gone
IDT announced TúYo Mobile on September 13, 2005, and it began commercial service that November. By July 31, 2007 it had about 100,000 active subscribers and $24.0 million in yearly revenue. In its fiscal 2008 report, IDT said it had lowered investment in TúYo Mobile. Wikipedia lists its end date as 2012. No dated shutdown notice was found.
If you had a TúYo Mobile line
No source names a carrier that took over TúYo Mobile customers. Wikipedia lists T-Mobile as the host network. An old TúYo number is most likely no longer active. Ask any current carrier, including T-Mobile, whether the number can still be ported. If not, choose a new plan and a new number.
Wikipedia names T-Mobile as the host network and 2012 as the end date without citations, while IDT’s own filings only say it used a major GSM carrier and give no end date.
How TúYo Mobile ended
- September 13, 2005: IDT announces TúYo Mobile, a prepaid GSM service for US Hispanics.
- November 2005: TúYo Mobile begins commercial operations.
- July 31, 2007: TúYo Mobile has about 100,000 active subscribers and $24.0 million in fiscal 2007 revenue.
- July 31, 2008: IDT reports fiscal 2008 TúYo revenue of $23.1 million and says it has lowered investment in the brand.
- 2012: TúYo Mobile ends, per Wikipedia.
Why TúYo Mobile ended
IDT’s filings point to the reasons. In fiscal 2008 IDT said competition in the MVNO market had been fierce and other providers also targeted Hispanic customers. It warned that the cost of signing up TúYo subscribers might not earn a reasonable return. IDT lowered its investment and said this would likely hinder growth. Wikipedia lists the end as 2012.
How to find who holds an old number now
- Check an old bill or payment record. It names the company that billed you last.
- Run the number through a carrier lookup tool. It shows the carrier that holds the number today.
- Call that carrier and ask for the account number and transfer PIN.
- Start the port from the new carrier. Never cancel the old line first.
Your right to keep a number
Number portability is federal law, not a carrier policy. The rule is the FCC’s: Portability: Keeping Your Phone Number When Changing Service Providers.

How we verified TúYo Mobile
BestCellular.com tracks active carriers and defunct ones. We keep both, because people still search for brands that no longer exist. Every fact on this page comes from the sources listed below, and we leave a detail out when no source states it. Where sources disagree, this page says so. If you can document a correction, tell us and we will check it against the sources.
Tracked and active are different counts on this site. TúYo Mobile counts in our tracked total, not in our active total, so it does not appear in tools built for live carriers.
