UppWireless was a low-cost phone service from UppTalk, the company formerly called Yuilop. It ran on T-Mobile’s 4G network and launched in the US in February 2014. UppTalk entered insolvency in 2014. A Wikipedia list dates the end to 2016. The UppTalk Wikipedia article says the service stopped in 2017.
UppWireless is gone
UppWireless launched in the US on February 12, 2014. It was a SIM-based, all-IP service on T-Mobile’s 4G network, with talk and text running over data. UppTalk entered insolvency in 2014. The Wikipedia MVNO list gives an end year of 2016. The UppTalk article on Wikipedia says the service was discontinued in 2017, when the company was dissolved. No official shutdown notice was found.
If you had an UppWireless line
No source names a carrier that took UppWireless customers. The service and its domain are gone. If your number still works, it now sits with the carrier you moved it to. Ask that carrier for your account number and port-out PIN before you switch again. T-Mobile still runs the network UppWireless used.
Sources disagree on the end year: the Wikipedia MVNO list says 2016 and the UppTalk Wikipedia article says 2017.
How UppWireless ended
- November 2010: Jochen Doppelhammer, former CEO of simyo, creates Yuilop, the company later renamed UppTalk.
- February 12, 2014: UppTalk announces UppWireless in the US on T-Mobile’s 4G network. Plans start at $15 a month for 1GB of data.
- 2014: UppTalk enters insolvency proceedings, per Wikipedia.
- 2016: End year given for UppWireless in the Wikipedia MVNO list.
- October 31, 2017: A Spanish report cited by Wikipedia says Grupo MasMovil ended UppTalk and dissolved the company.
Why UppWireless ended
UppWireless depended on its parent, UppTalk. According to Wikipedia, UppTalk entered insolvency in 2014, the same year UppWireless launched. A report cited there says Grupo MasMovil ended UppTalk’s activity and dissolved the company in October 2017, and that even the domain was abandoned. No source gives a reason for the US service ending beyond the parent company’s collapse.
How to find who holds an old number now
- Check an old bill or payment record. It names the company that billed you last.
- Run the number through a carrier lookup tool. It shows the carrier that holds the number today.
- Call that carrier and ask for the account number and transfer PIN.
- Start the port from the new carrier. Never cancel the old line first.
Your right to keep a number
Number portability is federal law, not a carrier policy. The rule is the FCC’s: Portability: Keeping Your Phone Number When Changing Service Providers.

How we verified UppWireless
BestCellular.com tracks active carriers and defunct ones. We keep both, because people still search for brands that no longer exist. Every fact on this page comes from the sources listed below, and we leave a detail out when no source states it. Where sources disagree, this page says so. If you can document a correction, tell us and we will check it against the sources.
Tracked and active are different counts on this site. UppWireless counts in our tracked total, not in our active total, so it does not appear in tools built for live carriers.
