Virgin Mobile USA is gone

Service ended February 2, 2020. Sprint shut the brand down ahead of the T-Mobile merger and migrated every remaining customer to Boost Mobile. There is no Virgin Mobile USA account to log into and no Virgin Mobile number to call.

So who has your number?

Boost Mobile. If you kept the line through the migration, your number sits on a Boost account today. Everything you need to move it lives on the Boost side — the port-out PIN comes from Boost Customer Care at 833-502-6678.

If your line went dormant years ago, assume the number is gone. Carriers recycle disconnected numbers. Nobody — not Boost, not the FCC, not us — can pull a released number back out of the pool once it has been reassigned.

What actually happened to Virgin Mobile USA

Sprint owned the brand. Virgin Mobile USA ran as a Sprint prepaid brand, on Sprint’s network.
January 2020: customers were notified by text that the service was being discontinued.
February 2, 2020: the brand merged into Boost Mobile. Accounts, numbers and plans moved over.
Sprint itself is gone too. T-Mobile completed the merger and retired the Sprint network entirely, so neither brand exists in any form today.

Moving a former Virgin Mobile number to a new carrier

You are porting out of Boost Mobile, not out of Virgin Mobile. The process:

Call Boost Customer Care at 833-502-6678 and ask for the port-out PIN for your number.
Give the new carrier the 10-digit number, the port-out PIN and your billing ZIP code.
Start the transfer from the new carrier, never by calling Boost to cancel.
Leave the line active. Boost closes it automatically when the port completes.

What happened to your Virgin Mobile USA number

Virgin Mobile USA ran on the Sprint network. The company is no longer in business. Any number that was not transferred out before it closed was released and cannot be recovered. If you did port out in time, the number belongs to whichever carrier you moved it to.
