AT&T Prepaid Account Number & PIN: Accurate 2026

AT&T Prepaid needs two items to port out: the account number, which only customer service at 800-901-9878 provides, and your 4-digit account PIN. AT&T says prepaid accounts do not use a Number Transfer PIN. It runs on AT&T.

Here is how to get your AT&T Prepaid account number and transfer PIN, and what to do with them when you move your number to another carrier.

Account Number

Your AT&T Prepaid account number is not shown in the myAT&T Prepaid account. Call AT&T Prepaid customer service at 800-901-9878 and ask for it. The phone number on the line is not the account number, and a postpaid AT&T account number from the same household does not apply.

Transfer PIN

AT&T states that AT&T Prepaid accounts do not need a Number Transfer PIN. The new carrier uses your 4-digit AT&T Prepaid account PIN, the passcode you set when you activated. If you have forgotten it, customer service can reset it or text it to the active AT&T Prepaid phone.

Do not dial *PORT or request a Number Transfer PIN from the AT&T app for a prepaid line. That path is for AT&T postpaid. AT&T’s own support article says prepaid accounts do not need one, and a port submitted with a Number Transfer PIN instead of the 4-digit account PIN is the most common AT&T Prepaid rejection.

AT&T Prepaid runs on AT&T

AT&T Prepaid is AT&T’s own no-contract brand, so it rides AT&T’s network directly rather than through a wholesale agreement. The brand replaced AT&T GoPhone on July 12, 2017; the service, the network and the account PIN rules did not change with the name, and a GoPhone number is an AT&T Prepaid number today.

A phone that worked on AT&T Prepaid is AT&T-compatible, so AT&T postpaid and any AT&T-based carrier will take it once it is unlocked. Moving to a carrier on Verizon’s or T-Mobile’s network is a different question. Check your IMEI against that carrier’s compatible device list before you start the transfer, and confirm the phone is unlocked: AT&T Prepaid phones bought from AT&T are locked until they qualify under AT&T’s unlock policy.

Who runs AT&T Prepaid

AT&T Prepaid is operated by AT&T itself, alongside AT&T postpaid and Cricket Wireless. It keeps a separate customer service line, a separate myAT&T Prepaid account, and its own account PIN. The GoPhone name survives only in search results and old packaging; AT&T retired it in 2017 and has sold prepaid service as AT&T Prepaid since.

AT&T Prepaid Contact Info

  • Customer service: 800-901-9878, Monday through Friday 7 AM to 10 PM, as AT&T publishes it for prepaid
  • From an AT&T Prepaid phone: dial 611
  • Account: myAT&T Prepaid, online or in the app, for balance and PIN changes
  • Transfer status: AT&T’s number-transfer status page, or 855-497-0350 for transfer problems

How to port your number away from AT&T Prepaid

  1. Keep the line active. Let the prepaid balance cover the transfer window; a line that has expired cannot port.
  2. Call 800-901-9878 and ask for your AT&T Prepaid account number. Confirm or reset your 4-digit account PIN in the same call.
  3. Give the new carrier the account number, the 4-digit account PIN, the zip code on the AT&T Prepaid account, and the account holder’s name exactly as AT&T has it.
  4. Wait for the new SIM to activate. AT&T sends a confirmation text when it releases the number; the prepaid line then ends on its own, and any remaining balance is not refunded.

Why an AT&T Prepaid port gets rejected

Three causes cover most failures: a Number Transfer PIN submitted where the 4-digit account PIN belongs, the phone number submitted as the account number, or a line whose prepaid balance expired before the port completed. Call customer service, confirm the account number and PIN, and resubmit. If AT&T has already texted that the number was released, ask the new carrier to resubmit the request rather than AT&T.
